The
2021 Elise Jourdevant International Prize of The Osteoarthritis Foundation was awarded to
Professor Tonia Vincent.
Professor Tonia Vincent is an academic rheumatologist primarily interested in osteoarthritis pathogenesis and her work is ambitioning to develop novel disease-modifying therapies for patients.
She is the director of the Centre for Osteoarthritis Pathogenesis versus Arthritis where the researchers validate basic laboratory findings through a translational pipeline using preclinical models, patient samples/cohorts and clinical studies.
Her research is focusing on how joint tissues respond to mechanical stress; their mechano-inflammatory and mechanoprotective mechanisms that can be harnessed to improve disease. She runs osteoarthritis clinics (at CHARING CROSS HOSPITAL and Oxford) as well as being rheumatology lead for the Oxford Marfan Syndrome Clinic.
Tonia Vincent has published numerous scientific articles, reviews, editorials and book chapters in her research field.
