International Elise Jourdevant Prize

Pr Francis Berenbaum is the winner of the «International Prize Elise Jourdevant» of The Osteoarthritis Foundation.

The Osteoarthritis Foundation awarded the « International Prize Elise Jourdevant » to Pr Berenbaum.

This prize has rewarded the entire scientific career of the researcher.

Francis Berenbaum is Professor of Rheumatology at the Sorbonne Universities and Head of the Rheumatology Department at the Saint-Antoine Hospital in Paris (France).

He was president of the International Osteoarthritis Society (OARSI) between 2008 and 2010 and also of the French Society of Rheumatology between 2014 and 2016. For nearly 10 years he has been the national representative of bone and joint diseases at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) as part of the French Alliance for Life Sciences and Health. At European level, he is a member of the scientific committee of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) and of the scientific committee of the foundation of EULAR (FOREUM).

Pr Berenbaum heads an experimental team at INSERM. His research focuses on understanding the relationships between metabolic diseases and osteoarthritis in order to find new therapeutic targets. His clinical research is dedicated at the evaluation of new targeted therapies in osteoarthritis as well as a better knowledge of the prognosis of hand osteoarthritis.

He has published nearly 250 research articles, most of which are devoted to osteoarthritis.
